In just over a year, 100,000 people graduated after completing a Bible study in Shincheonji...this is an unprecedented phenomenon that is taking place globally.

Due to the corruption and the secularization of today’s world, a great number of people are coming to Shincheonji to study the Bible and to fill their spiritual needs. Currently, there is a decrease in the number of people who identify themselves with a religion worldwide, however, a rare phenomenon recently occurred. Within the short time of one year, 100,000 people streamed into a church called Shincheonji, Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (a newly rising denomination in the Republic of Korea).

On November 10th, 2019, Shincheonji held a graduation ceremony with 100,000 graduates who completed a Bible study administered by Shincheonji. The Bible study is a 6-month course, delivered without cost, that must be completed in order to register as a church congregation member.

The graduation took place in the province of Gyeonggi-do with a total of 103,764 people who passed their graduation exam after studying the Bible in its entirety. Approximately 50,000 were present in the audience and the graduation was broadcasted in other major cities of Korea. International graduates overseas also participated through live stream broadcasting.

The average church size within Australia is 121 congregation members, which means that if such graduation were to occur in Australia, then Shincheonji would have effectively grown 857 churches within the year. This bucks the trend of the percentage decrease seen within religion globally and is even more amazing that the increase is following an in-depth study of the scripture.

A survey conducted of the 100,000 graduates showed that 41.7% were believers practicing their faith under existing denominations within Christianity and Catholicism. Additionally, the reason why they decided to go to Shincheonji was because of its “groundbreaking teaching of the Word [Bible]”.

One graduate said, “In a traditional church, I was not able to fill my spiritual hunger, however, in Shincheonji I was able to fill it with the words of the Bible and understand a clear purpose of my life as a Christian.” He continued to say, “numerous people are leaving their churches due to the corruption that is prevalent. We do not trust these institutions or their teaching but Shincheonji helps believers have a logical and clear understanding of what it means to be born- again with the word. Therefore, I chose to come to Shincheonji.”

It is incredible to see a 100,000 graduation ceremony, however, what is more shocking is that Shincheonji, which has been growing since 1984, is labeled as a “cult” by the Christian world. The major allegations made against it are that, “Shincheonji claims that it’s founder is the One Who Overcomes”, and “Shincheonji hides their true identity when evangelising and brainwashes the people with their teaching”. When asked about these allegations, the graduates emphatically stated that these were false accusations.

One graduate stated, “For the past 6 months of Bible study, I saw that Shincheonji doesn’t make people leave their homes, and I realised that those were false rumours and far from the truth. I am thankful that I had a chance to study the Bible and to see for myself that Shincheonji’s teaching of the Bible is biblical and logical.”

Another graduate mentioned that Shincheonji does not reveal their church name when evangelising due to the false rumours spread about Shincheonji by traditional churches. These rumours spread fear and stop people from listening to the teaching of Shincheonji only using the words of the Bible as their standard.

He stated that “Personally I would not have listened to this teaching if I knew it was Shincheonji at the start because of all the terrible rumours. I am happy that it wasn’t revealed to me as I had the chance not to listen with prejudice or be prevented from listening at all.”

Church leaders of traditional Christianity in the Republic of Korea responded to the rapid growth of Shincheonji this year by saying, “Everyone in the world of religion needs to repent and readjust from becoming entangled with corruption, politics and the increasing incidents of sexual impropriety, that are losing the trust of believers.”

However, Shincheonji states that 95% of those who chose to come to Shincheonji, come because of the excellent teaching of the Bible in its entirety, from Genesis to Revelation. They claim that the greatest difference between traditional churches and Shincheonji is that it is the only place that teaches the prophecies and the fulfillment of Revelation.

The graduation will be the starting point of Shincheonji’s continuous growth, as there are currently 200,000 people studying the Bible. At this rate of growth, Shincheonji will reach a million congregation members within 3 years. All these things show the work of the spirit of God and his power, because all these things are done by God’s power, not by men. All this is a miracle from God and Shincheonji welcomes all people to come and listen and see for themselves the truth about Shincheonji and the Bible, quoting:
“Does our law condemn a man without first hearing him to find out what he has been doing?“
(John 7:51).
