Wendy is the founder of the women’s bass tour, which is an up and coming organization of women bass anglers devoted to promoting the sport of bass fishing. The WBT is a diverse group of women from all walks of life competing in a male dominated sport. These ladies run their own boats and have their own sponsors. What was the key to success for your Toledo Bend tournament?

My co angler and I decided on fishing the back of Hurricane Creek. While many other anglers were in there fishing the open flats, we concentrated on button willows (buck brush) in 3-4 ft deep water. We pitched numerous soft plastics deep into the brush, I finally settled on a 7” lizard made by Fancy Girl Custom Baits in a color I requested, green pumpkin with red and copper flake. I would pitch deep, getting the bait over a tiny twig, let it go to the bottom. Pick it up a few inches, shake, and let settle back to the bottom. I would do this 6-8 times, pull over limb and repeat until it was clear if the brush. The bass would find it, aggravated, would attack the lizard and eat it. I lost one big fish trying to wrestle it out of the thick brush.

How does it feel to be sitting on top of the field of some great lady anglers?

I feel blessed, the lady Pros I compete against are some of the best anglers I have competed against! So, I have developed patience and determination. Slowing down and dissecting every piece of cover. I’m sure I will be unseated during the year as I am fishing against some truly exceptional anglers.
