The second annual Alexander Ford-Robbins Cricket Match will take place on Saturday 12th September at Grafham and Smithbrook Cricket Club, Rushett Common, Horsham Road, Grafham GU5 0LH from 11.30am. During the afternoon the first planting of donations at the Memorial Garden, in Alexander’s memory, will also take place.
Andy Crowther, Chairman of the Cricket Club, said, “We had a wonderful time at last year's inaugural AFR Cricket Match. This year, we are aiming to build on the success in both terms of raising funds, which will be split between the SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy) and the club itself. We are extending the fun and entertainment to a full day, with the addition of a bouncy castle, all day BBQ, music running alongside the match, and a Race Night during the evening. A fitting tribute to Alexander, who was the Captain of the Friendly Side, before his tragic death on 22 July 2013. So many of Alexander’s friends still play at the club and it brings us all back together with occasional members joining with friends and regular players to enjoy a game in his memory.”
The afternoon will also see the first plants being planted at the new Memorial Garden, which is located at Woodland Burials, Gaston Gate, and lies between the Run Common Road and the Guildford Road (B2128) GU5 0SQ adjacent to Manzel Nurseries.
The planting will be lead by Alexander’s mother, Vanessa Ford, “I want this garden to be full of plants, loved by bees and butterflies, to be living, thriving place in which to reflect and remember. A place to dream, reflect and remember. A place to let out inner turmoil and stress – and to breath in the peace, hope. Last year's wonderful cricket day was so uplifting, and this year, with an expansion of entertainment, alongside the planting at the Memorial Garden, will bring even more fun and friendship into our community”.
