Trusted Travel Website Reveals the Most Dangerous Airports in the World
LONDON, UK 15th May 2023 - The Boutique Adventurer, an authoritative travel website offering information, resources and tips, has revealed the most dangerous and stressful airports in the world. They’ve compiled their extensive list to help travellers plan their next trip and ease the anxiety and fear many people have when flying.

Their in-depth article is based on research surrounding conditions in airports worldwide. When creating the list, they set criteria to help measure the conditions of an airport and determine the potential for in-flight issues or problems with cancellations or delays. The criteria include high altitudes, wind conditions, runway length, runway location and political or social unrest. Much of the information was also gathered through first-hand experience.

Many airports featured in the list present challenges for pilots due to their location and geo-specific weather conditions. Both factors can make approaches difficult and passengers are likely to experience things like rough turbulence and sudden changes in altitude, things that can make flying stressful and frightening.

For example, Lukla Airport in Nepal, one of the most difficult in the world for pilots, has an extremely short runway and is surrounded by the Himalayan mountains. Due to the tricky conditions, the airport requires pilots to have worked in similar high-risk situations in Nepal and to have completed 100 short runway take-offs and landings.

Another treacherous flying experience that made their list is arrivals and departures at Paro Airport in Bhutan. Only a small number of pilots in the world are certified to navigate the 45-degree drop required upon approach for landing. In addition, the airport lacks surveillance radar to guide pilots.

The Boutique Adventurer also looked at airports in the United States when compiling their list. Telluride Regional Airport and Aspen/Pitkin County Airport, both in Colorado, are surrounded by mountainous regions and are prone to windy conditions. The Cleveland Hopkins International Airport in Cleveland, Ohio doesn’t present any hazardous conditions but has a history of safety offences.

When it comes to political or social unrest, Damascus International Airport in Syria presents a number of dangers. The ongoing Syrian Civil War makes the airport a potential target for terrorists. In fact, the airport was closed in 2022 after an airstrike. Furthermore, the Alejandro Velasco Astete Cusco International Airport in Peru is vulnerable to anti-government protests. These protests have shut down airports in the region, leading to flight delays and cancellations.

These are just a small handful of the airports that The Boutique Adventurer researched for their list of dangerous airfields likely to cause travel anxiety or complications. For those planning on flying in or out of airports on the list, the website offers tips that will make things easier.

The website also offers a destination portal where visitors can learn more about top holiday hotspots and better plan their itineraries. They’ve created expert reviews for spas and hotels around the world, along with airline reviews to help travellers in the beginning stages of planning their next holiday or business trip.

Finally, The Boutique Adventurer blog offers first-hand accounts and information about some of the most popular holiday destinations around the globe.
