On Saturday afternoon, the NFL playoffs will proceed with an environment that many are not familiar with.
It is due to the new format that was put in place to curb the virus's spread. The new design had extended the postseason to seven teams per conference. Another unfamiliar predicament is that some of the vast stadiums are not going to allow fans inside. Due to the dreaded COVID-19 virus, stadiums have been sparsely populated if not downright deserted during the NFL playoffs regular season. Teams will have to put up with the absence of the traditionally electric atmosphere.
While making their playoffs debut, some of the teams that are planning to have their stadiums operating at minimum capacity include the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs. However, several groups and stadiums plan to usher fun this weekend during the Super Wild Card round. Here are some of them:
Saturday, January 10 Indianapolis Colts @ Buffalo Bills—1:05 p.m. ET, CBS
The Bills have played behind closed doors throughout the regular
season, and this time around, they will allow a few of their fans in 25 years for their first NFL playoffs game at
home. The governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, stated last week that Bills Stadium would allow 6,772 fans to compete against the Colts. The game will take place in the afternoon on Saturday. Fans who plan to attend this game will have to test negative fi COVID-19 before granted access.
To cover the testing charges, the Bills had to add a $63 surcharge
to the ticket price. Fans who bought tickets were informed of their appointed times and day when the tests were supposed to be carried out to over 5,000 fans on Wednesday at the stadium's parking lot. Fans who are going to attend the Saturday NFL playoffs game
will have to maintain social distancing. However, it is unclear whether the bills will be given the green light to welcome fans in their divisional match if they hit the Colts.
"The country has said, 'You can plan [for fans at a second playoff game], but there's no guarantee." Said Kim Pegula, franchise owner and team president. "They want to see how this process goes, in terms of mask-wearing, ingress, egress, all of that. So a lot of our message to our fans is to just really follow the protocols that are in place," he added.
Sunday, January 10
Baltimore Ravens @ Tennessee Titans—1:05 p.m. ET, ESPN
Fans are allowed to attend the NFL playoffs match between the Titans Baltimore Ravens at Nissan Stadium on Sunday 10th. It is going to be a rematch of last year's Divisional Round Matchup. Nissan Stadium was the first to re-open during the pandemic on October 4th last year with a capacity of 10%. On Sunday, it will operate on a 21% power, which is equivalent to 14,500 fans.
